Initial Ideas and Brainstorms

Our initial idea is that of street crime seen through the eyes of children.
We are starting with two children playing whilst a news story plays out in the background regarding knife and gun crime and young people.  The two children stab each other with swords and shoot each other with toy guns.
We then cut to a younger child holding a teddy we go to a close up then an extreme close up of his eyes and cut to a zoom out of his older brother's eye from which we zoom out.  The adult is holding a gun.
We follow his life on the streets and the story of how he became a criminal from a young age.
We return home to see him hugging the small child.  they look each other in the eye.  Close up of  each eye.  Child's pupil constricts at sound of gunshot.   Tear falls (picture in tear?)
Initial Ideas
Having seen our previous year’s a2 short films, we have observed closely and came up with multiple ideas of what our short film will look like. We figured that as the riots and gang violence was very recent, we will make a short film about it. We came to a conclusion that the film will be about a group of males, robbing and bullying others, in which the last scene of the short film will contain a twist as one of the youth’s is bullied into this. This young male will have to look like a victim, and act like one too. In the last scene, the whole gang will be robbing two males, considerably aged 25-31, and the males turned out to be undercover police offers. However, looking deep into the idea we have created, we believed it will be very hard to come up with the shots and characters as we wanted the short film to be creative and realistic to gain as much marks as we can however without the cars, police officers and props, we believed it wouldn’t.
Our second idea was very interesting, however also very hard to construct. It also contained a twist superior than the other. The genre of this short film was an urban drama but with a comic twist. The protagonist of this film had to sound very urban and looks like a typical London youth who was considered to be involved in the riot gang violence. The protagonist was meant to be acting with multiple dogs beside him. The short film was about a London youth going out, however stereotypically; this character was going out looking as if he was going to break the law. Whilst jogging down the street with his hood up, the camera shows shots of his body and face, giving extra tension and suspense, confusing and most importantly, manipulating the audience. Just before the end of the short film, the camera shows the hands of the protagonists, holding many ropes. The camera then follows the ropes, and ends up seeing many dogs having a walk. The idea was great and was one of our top choices for us to carry on with it. However, the fact that we had to bring many dogs made the decision fail. in addition, the film would have been very long as the camera shots would have took very long as we would have had to bring the correct dogs and position them correctly.
